For those who don't know you, please introduce yourself

I was born in Kuching, Malaysia and I moved to Christchurch when I was two years old. I have five members in my family, two brothers, my mum and my dad. I love rugby but I'm also open to playing other sports for leisure to widen your range of physical skill.

At what age did you become interested in Rugby as a sport?

I started getting interested in Rugby around the age of eleven, which was quite late in comparison to the starting age of other players.

When did you know that Rugby was the career you wanted to pursue (If this is not the case, what alternate jobs are you interested in)

I am using Rugby as an opportunity to pursue a career in physiotherapy. I just find it really amazing and interesting to be able to rehabilitate someone back to 100% (or at least close to it) after an injury, and I have experienced this myself with a partially torn Achilles tendon and a broken arm.

You are known around the school for being a talented rugby player, in your opinion, who do you think has influenced your success the most? Who are your rugby heroes?

I think my friends have influenced my success the most, because without them I probably wouldn't have started playing Rugby in the first place. They also help me technically and provide me with a sense of competition, and being a naturally competitive person myself, I want to beat them, which therefore always forces me to try my best. My Rugby hero is a little odd, because it isn't a classic famous player, it is actually my childhood friend, because he was the one who got me into Rugby and taught me how to play the game. If it weren't for him I probably would not be playing Rugby.

What was your favourite rugby game you have ever played?

My favourite game of rugby was probably in 2015 when we played against Linwood. It was a tough game against opponents that were physically bigger than us, but we kept fighting all the way to the end and we won 22-21.

This year you are involved in a US scholarship programme and promotion opportunity, could you please explain this to those of us who don't know the process?

The Scholarship programme I'm participating in is called ''NSR Sport and Education), which provides athletes the opportunity to go and study in America while also playing rugby and improving our sporting capabilities. It isn't an opportunity that is purely limited to just rugby, they offer it to a variety of sports and individuals.

What do you hope to make of this amazing opportunity?

I'm so grateful for this opportunity and I know I will be working really hard once I get there, my goal out of the experience is just to have fun, make the most of what is provided to me, and just learn more about the sport.

Why do think Rugby is a sport that is so cherished by New Zealand?

I think that rugby is highly valued by New Zealand because we are so good at it and kiwis just seem to be built for it, so naturally people want to support them and develop players that will earn success in the sport.

If you could leave us with one inspiring nugget of wisdom what would it be?

Whatever sport you play, always play your hardest and have fun. It's okay to be selfish, you allowed to play for yourself, and ensure you come off the field knowing you worked hard and did everything you could have done to help your team.
