At the beginning of lunch a multi-coloured swarm of year 13's populated the fields, grabbing fistfuls of white bread, sausages and bottles of tomato sauce (the record, I am told was that one student consumed 10 but this achievement is yet to be confirmed) before settling in clusters around the field to talk and listen to the ascending beats of Avicii or an occasional Pitbull song. It was only later on when the hotdog inventory was running low and period 5 was dawning that the true chaos began. A heated tug-of-war erupted between the students, and aquatic weaponry such as water pistols, a giant sling shot and a heaving bucket of water balloons and freezing water appeared out of nowhere, resulting in beams of cold water being shot and hurled from every direction, the hope of dryness became an extinct possibility. What made the event even more successful was the large tarpaulin water slide, which despite being left mostly untouched at the start of lunchtime was, by the end of the day, crowded with students inhaling mouthfuls of soap-suds as they skidded along at extreme speeds, leading the overly-enthusiastic Jasmine Worsley to unknowingly break her thumb in the process. Overall, it was an awesome introduction to the school year and Year 13 as a community, and we cannot thank the head and staff support prefects enough for organizing such an amazing time.
