The Sports Leaders may have conquered swimming sports, but the bona-fide pinochle of term 1, had to be the chaotic two-day extravaganza of Athletics day.
Like an electrically-charged prequel to wacky week, the year 13's held no prisoners as they appeared on the sports field in detailed outfits of classic kiwi rugby players, aggressive basketball players, laid-back tennis players, cricket players, eye-piercingly bright 80's aerobics instructors, ballerinas, cowboys, Mexicans in wide sombreros, cloudy-eyed hippies, tough tradies, batman, robin and a seemingly uncomfortable Spiderman, a pickle, intricate balloon suits that resembled grapes, a Native American, a grandma, a scarily coordinated Hawaiian-themed suit, boxers from 'TMT' or 'The Money Team' and a myriad of hipster sunglasses. Despite the year 12's dominating the first place titles, the girls produced a mass of enthusiastic athletes, the amazing Emma Clarke reestablishing her athletic range by earning second in Senior Girls Track, with Melissa Bayley and Briah Handa-Oakley receiving joint third, while the wonderful Julia Newlands swiped third in field with her impressive performance. For the Senior Boys, Max McLachlan and Rian Lynch shared a second in track, with Lynch claiming the first place title in field, followed by a second place gained by Judd Cargin.
